“God made a miracle out of me!” Dios hizo un milagro de mí

Alma is finally free!  She was discharged from the hospital last Tuesday the 21st of June after more that a month in the hospital.   ¡Alma está libre por fin!  Salió del hospital después de más de un mes el 21 de junio 2011.     El doctor le preguntó, ¿Que va a decir a la gente de Jocotan cuando vuelve.  Alma dijo «Dios hizo un milagro de mí. »     The Doctor asked Alma, “What are you going to tell the people back home in Jocotan.  Alma said “God made a miracle of me!”                                                                                                                                                               Alma y nosotros estamos muy agradecios y alabamos a Dios por lo que Dios hizo.  We are all grateful to God and praise Him for what He did for Alma!    

We also would like to express our appreciation to Outreach for World Hope for making all this possible.  Thanks to the volunteers who so graciously spent hour upon hour with Alma.  También damos gracias a Esperanza para el Mundo por hacerlo todo posible.  Gracias a los voluntarios que hora tras hora estaban con Alma.

 Thanks to the dedicated doctors, nurses and personnel of American Family Children’s Hospital.  Gracias a los doctores, tan dedicados, los enfermeros y toda la personal del Hospital American Family Children’s Hospital.  No hay manera de pagarles.  Pero Dios va a pagarles.  There is no way to recompense you.  God will pay you!

Alma on general floor – Alma ya salió del intensivo

Alma is on the General Floor, American Family  Children’s Hospital, and she is so happy and excited to not be physically in the ICU.  She has been smiling a lot.  Alma ya está en el piso general del hospital, American Family Children’s Hospital.  Ella está muy contenta no estar en intensivo nada más.  Está sonriendo mucho.

Rounds were kind of exciting this morning. La plática de los doctores era muy especial esta mañana.  There were about sixteen people, including the Physical Therapist, the Occupational Therapist, and her Dr Schroth, her Pulmonologist.  Había tipo de diez y seis personas incluyendo la que da terapía física, y la de terapía ocupacional y su doctora de los pulmones Doctora Schroth.   Alma was doing everything including going up and down the stairs in the physical therapy room, and playing basketball in front of the whole team.  Alma hizo todo incluyendo subir y bajar las gradas en el cuarto de terapía física y jugar a basket en frente de todo el equipo.  She was good at it and threw from her chest. Ella lo hizo bien y tiró del pecho.   Meantime during the rounds the Pulmonologist  said Alma will probably be discharged from the hospital on Monday, God be willing.  Mientras tanto durante esta conferencia la doctora dijo que probablemente Alma saldrá el lunes, primero Dios.

Alma’s right lung is now open but could still use some improvement.  Alma is doing well at her treatments.  She ate well and is very happy.  Last night she slept the best she has slept in  a  month.  El pulmón derecho ya está abierto pero falta un poco para sanar.  Alma hace bien en todos sus tratamientos.  Comió bien y está alegre.  Anoche durmió lo mejor del mes pasado.

So many things have changed it is hard to know where to begin.  Tantas cosas han cambiado que es difícil saber donde empezar.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               – Alma está ahora en el Hospital General que quiere decir no necesita a los especialistas tanto como antes.  Alma is on the General Hospital status which means she does not need the specialized care she had before.                                                               -Alma is breathing room air.  Alma está respirando con aire del cuarto.                                                                                                         -Alma no tiene el dolor como antes.  Alma doesn’t have much pain like before.                                                                                          

Alma is recuperating again – Alma se mejora ahorita

Alma se siente mejor ahora.  Alma is feeling much better now.  Alma ya ha salido de intensivo.  Alma is now offically out of the ICU, intensive care, status.  Her lungs are back to the baseline, according to Dr. Brazelton, the doctor in charge of the ICU.  Los pulmones de Alma ya están poquito mejor, y más o menos estables.

Alma’s parents are very tired.  Los papas de Alma están muy cansados. 

Set Back-Alma’s Lungs – Los Pulmones de Alma

Alma has had a set back.  Her lungs are white.  So the therapist says they are trying agressive action for her to breathe and cough.  She is sleeping right now with a mask which helps her breathe.

Alma ha sufrido en sus pulmones.  Están blancos.  La terapista dice que están tratando tratamientos agresivos para ayudarle respirar y tocer.  Está dormida ahora con un máscaro por una hora.    

Alma cannot eat solid foods nor drink think liquids like water.  Alma no puede comer comida solida ni beber líquidos ligeros como agua.  Ella tiene sed.                             

Alma Markedly Better – Alma se mejoró mucho-Gracias a Dios

Alma was sitting up with her parents at her side when I came it at 8 am.  Alma estaba sentada a las ocho con sus papas a su lado cuando llegué.  Thanks be to God for the miracles He has done for Alma!                      Alma is able to suction her own saliva.  (In the ICU they call it “operating her own pulmonary toilet.”  Alma si misma está quitando líquido de sus pulmones.                                                                                                    Alma va a quedarse un día más en intensivo para asegurar que no hay problemas mayores.                          Alma will stay in the ICU another day to ensure she does not worsen, especially that her lungs remain stable.  Two or three specialists are coming to visit Alma today.  One is the speech therapist.  the speech therapist will ensure Alma can swallow.  The other expert will be the pulmonary doctor.  Alma’s lungs still have a way to go to be healed.  Dos o tres especialistas vana ver a Alma hoy.  Uno es terapía de hablar para aseguar que puede tragar bien.  Otro es el doctor de pulmones.  Los pulmones todavía faltan poquito para sanar.                                                                                                                                                                The orthopedic resident said Alma might be on the floor for seven to ten days.  El doctor que ayudó a Doctor Noonan dijo que Alma tal vez se quedará siete hasta diez días en el hospital después.                         The translator volunteers will no longer need to stay overnight, because Alma is resting peaceully.  Los voluntarios no tienen que quedarse durante las noches porque Alma se descansa bien.

Alma Improving – Oren por los pulmones

Alma is recuperating.  Alma está mejorandose.  Oren por sus pulmones.  Pray for her lungs.  Alma has a lot of fluid on her lungs.  Alma underwent the most extensive type of surgery for scoleosis.  Alma tiene mucho líquido en sus pulmones.  Alma tuvo la operación más extensiva de escoleosis.  Alma had a 130 degree curve in her lungs.  Alma sufría de una curva de 130 grados.  One of the Orthopedic Surgeon projects Alma might have three more days in Intensive Care.  El cirujano piensa que tal vez tenga tres días más en intensiva.  Please pray for Alma’s lungs to heal.  Por favor oren que los pulmones se sanen.

Another Big Miracle – Otro Gran Milagro

Last evening was another big miracle from God.  Anoche hubo otro gran milagro de Dios. Alma was getting very agitated and completely fighting Juana, her Mom, and me because she has been hooked up to a respirator since the third of June.   Alma estaba muy anciosa y completamente luchaba contra su mamá y contra mí.  Then the attending physician came in and said we will now take out the tube.    Luego llegó el médico y dijo ahora vamos a quitar el tubo para que se respire Alma si misma.    Juana and I explained to Alma that she had to cooperate or she could not get the tube out.   La Juana y yo explicamos a Alma que Alma tenía que colaborar o no podía quitar el tubo.  Finally she quit fighting.  Por fin Alma dejó de luchar.  The doctor asked me if Alma is an obedient, smart young lady.  El doctor me preguntó si Alma era una patoja obediente y lista.  Yo dije que “sí.”  I told him “Yes.”  I began to tell Alma I knew she was obedient and a wonderful young lady. Yo le dije a Alma que sabía que era obediente y muy buena patoja. She completely cooperated while I was translating and the respiratory team took off the breathing tube.  Alma completamente colaboró mientras traducía y el equipo médico sacó el tubo para respirarse.  Alma’s first words were:  ”I want to live”  Las primeras palabras de Alma fueron “¡Quiero vivir!”

Last night was a rough night.  Kim responded to Roman’s (Alma’s Dad’s) call; Kim stayed all night.  Anoche era muy dura.  Kim respondió a la llamada del papá de Alma.  Kim se quedó la noche.

Ana Cristina and Kelly, two wonderful translator volunteers were here during the time the team took out the tube.  I then went with Ana, who is bright young Guatemalan, who is getting her PHD in plant pathology.  I was able to go with Ana and help her plant hundreds of tubers (potatoes.)  Then we went to a Peruvian restaurant.  Ana told me the testimony of the miracles in her family through faith in Christ.

Alma finallly got settled just now after 48 hours or so not sleeping.  I convinced her that sitting up was better for her.

Praise the Lord for these three successful surgeries and the medical care!.  Alma’s parents are over at the Ronald McDonald House recuperating.

Peticion Alma – Prayer Request Alma

Alma está mejorando cada día, pero hoy sus pulmones estaban un poco con líquido.  Alma is getting better each day, but today the lungs are a little full of fluid.  Please pray that her lungs will heal.  Por favor oren que sus pulmones se sanen.  Tiene que lograr tocer bien y respirarse bien para quitar el tubo de la boca.  Alma has to improve in order for her breathing tube to be removed.  It looks like it might be Saturday.  Parece que va a ser el sábado, primero Dios.

Alma recuperating from huge surgery- Alma está recuperandose

Doctor Izkandar, the Neurosurgeon, told Alma she is coming out of the surgery “better than most!”  Alma smiled the first smile I have seen since the surgery 3 June.  El Doctor Izkandar, el Neurologo, le dijo a Alma que salió “mejor que la mayoría.”  Alma se sonrió, la primera vez desde la operación el 3 de junio.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Estamos orando que Dios le sane a Alma los pulmones.  Tuvo una operación enorme.  We are praying that God would heal Alma’s lungs.  She had an enormous operation.
